Peter Henry Paulsen was born November 26, 1926, the son of Henry and Dora Hanneman Paulsen. He died Wednesday, December 30, 2009, at Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, at the age of eighty-three.
Pete was born near Danbury, Iowa. He was baptized in Christ at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, and confirmed in 1941 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Soldier Township, rural Charter Oak, Iowa. He attended rural grade school by Danbury and then parochial school for grades 6-8 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Soldier Township.
On February 28, 1950, he was united in marriage to Betty Grell at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton, Iowa. The couple made their home in the rural Schleswig area and were blessed with the birth of four daughters. He farmed until 1970 when they moved to Deloit and he then worked at IBP for twenty years.
He was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and camping at Lake View, Iowa. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison where he attended faithfully.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents, one sister in infancy and two brothers-in-law, Martin Wodtke and Merlin Overhue. Survivors include his wife, Betty of Deloit; four daughters: Susan Young and her husband, Tom of Sioux City, Iowa; Sandra Luvaas and her husband, Chuck of Ames, Iowa; Patricia Leinen and her husband Dan of Denison; and Lois Johnson and her husband, Troy of La Vista, Nebraska; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; two sisters: Lillian Wodtke of Mapleton and Wardene Overhue of Charter Oak; many relatives and friends.
