Phyllis Bluml

Phyllis Arlene Hoffman Bluml was born August 31, 1920, the daughter of Lawrence and Clara Zitzlsperger Hoffman. She passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2011, at the Crawford County Memorial in Denison, Iowa, at the age of ninety.
She was born in Glidden, Iowa, and attended St. Augustines Catholic School in Halbur, Iowa, through the eighth grade. She helped on the family farm until going to work in Omaha, Nebraska, at Offutt Air Force Base during WWII. She was united in marriage to Leo Bluml on February 5, 1946, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manning, Iowa. Together they made their home in Denison. For many years she was employed by Cronks Caf.
She was a loving, caring mother, always putting her family first. She was an excellent cook and baker, specializing in homemade breads and pies. She was a very good seamstress and was actively involved in the quilting group at the Methodist Church. She made a quilt for every one of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and she also enjoyed embroidering. She liked to play cards and go dancing, especially to polka music. She was proud of her flowers she raised around her home. She was a member of the Crawford County Hospital Auxiliary, an active member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison and their Altar Society.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Leo in 1985; one sister, Harriet; and two brothers: Earl and Julius. She is survived by two sons: Robert and his wife, Christina; and Richard; two daughters: Rebeccaand her husband, Joseph; and Nancy and her husband, Jim; four grandchildren: Joseph, Beth, and Anthony, and Holly; and two great-grandchildren: Nicklaus and Brynn; one brother, William; one sister, Marian; other relatives and friends.
