Phyllis (Molly) Hummel

Phyllis Lorraine Hummel was born May 6, 1926, the daughter of August and Emma Nollen Hast. She passed away Friday, January 18, 2013, at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa, at the age of 86.
Molly was born in Buck Grove, Iowa. She was baptized in Christ on December 12, 1937, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Dow City and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church, Charter Oak on March 1, 1942. She received her education in area schools near her home.
On July 11, 1942, Molly was united in marriage to John Stone in Rockport, Missouri. The couple made their home near Vail, Iowa, and were blessed with the birth of three children. Molly worked as a farm wife and homemaker while her children were young. John passed away on December 6, 1965, and Molly went to work at JoMart Restaurant and Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison for several years. She was married to Norman Hummel on November 21, 1969, at the Lutheran Church in Wayne, Nebraska, and they were happily married for 42 years.
Molly was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. She enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, cooking, baking, crocheting, and crafts. In her leisure she loved fishing, camping, playing cards and games while socializing with family and friends over coffee and treats.
Molly was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Mary Jane Thies; one great-great-grandson, Parker James Lloyd; three brothers, Virgil, Fritz and Vernie Hast and one sister, Shirley Hollrah. Survivors include two sons, Larry Stone and his wife, Donna of Schleswig; and Russell Stone and his wife, Carole of Delavan, Illinois; one son-in-law, Larry Thies of Denison; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Doris Auen and her husband, Arnold of Pharr, Texas and Betty Greder and her husband, Keith of Denison; three sisters-in-law, Fern Hast of Dunlap; Darlene and Delores Hast, both of Denison; other relatives and friends.
