Preston Lee Luft was born on February 5, 1986, in Manning, Iowa, to parents Earl and Gail (Weller) Luft of Westside, Iowa. He was baptized into the Catholic faith that same spring at St. Ann Catholic Church in Vail, Iowa. He entered into his Lords caring hands in the latehours of August 4, 2012.
Preston grew up in Westside and graduated from Ar-We-Va High School in the year 2005. He played football and basketball in school. As a teenager, he helped his dad work his hydraulic business. After graduation he ventured into a few different jobs and most recently returned to his dads shop to help run the business with his oldest sister. Preston enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
He entered into the world of racing cars with his friends, participating as a pitman, and after a time changed his hobby to competition coon hunting. Preston liked to watch sporting shows on TV and competition coon hunting on the computer. His love of the outdoors led him into the woods with his dog and many happy days with his friends working their hounds for the sport of treeing a coon. He was a member of United Kennel Club and Prohound Kennel Club. In 2011 he won second place at the competition coon hunt at the lodge near Marshalltown, Iowa. It was this sport that took his life from a fall in the woods near Marshalltown.
Preston is survived by his parents, Earl and Gail Luft of Westside; two sisters, Charlene Luft and her children, Joshua Luft, Emily Johnson, and Andrew Johnson; Lynnette and her husband, Tim Schulz, along with their children, Austin Tigges, Carson Schulz, Morgan and Mylie Schulz; all of Carroll, Iowa; his grandparents, Gordon Weller, Sr. of Westside; and Gladys Luft of Jefferson, Iowa. He had several aunts and uncles, cousins, and other family and friends.
Preston was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Leonard Luft, and maternal grandmother, Genevieve Weller.
