Ralph was born in Crawford County on June 19, 1921, to Fred and Alma Pischke Dierenfield. He entered Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa, in April 2001, where he passed away January 4, 2010, at the age of 88.
He was baptized in Christ on July 1, 1921, and confirmed on April 5, 1936, at Peace Lutheran Church in Wall Lake, Iowa. He grew up around the Wall Lake, Westside area and attended country school by Wall Lake. After completing school he moved in with relatives where he helped them farm.
He married Lucille Segebart on July 25, 1954, in Ida Grove, Iowa. To this union, two sons and one daughter were born. During World War II he served his country by fixing planes. He started a feed business store in Westside and later was a feed salesman in Nebraska for three years. He returned to Iowa and started a feed business on his farm by Schleswig.
He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed vacationing at the cabin in Okoboji where he fished and spent time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed helping farmers diagnose livestock problems. He was a devoted Lutheran who was active in church activities and served as president of the congregation at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. He also enjoyed watching Billy Graham evangelism programs.
He leaves to mourn: his wife of fifty-five years, Lucille; two sons: Randy and his wife, Karen; and Steven and his wife, Sheryl; and one daughter, Nancy; eleven grandchildren; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Elmer and Werner; and one sister, Violet.
He was a blessing to many, and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
