Randy Merlin Umland was born December 10, 1959, in Carroll, Iowa, the son of Merlin and Colleen Joy Umland. He passed away Monday, July 13, 2020, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, at the age of sixty.
Randy received his education in the Denison Community Schools and graduated from Denison High School with the class of 1978. He held various jobs after high school and was employed as a truck driver for FAC in Arcadia, Iowa, for the past twenty-five years. In February of 1993, he met Darla Rios and they have been together since that time.
Classic cars were Randy’s passion and he particularly enjoyed showing his vehicles, especially classic American products. He particularly loved to drive his Corvette to Lake View. Randy liked to watch mechanical redoing and restoration of cars and was also a model car collector. Randy was a very outdoors-type man who enjoyed camping and fishing and just sitting outside and taking pleasure in nature. Playing Euchre and vegetable gardening were favorite pastime activities, as well as socializing with his friends. He was very easy going and just wanted smooth sailing.
Randy was preceded in death by his father, Merlin; grandparents: Albert and Emma and Ira Merle and Mary. Survivors include: his fiance, Darla; her children, Richard and his wife, Lauren, and Joshua and his wife, Katie; five step-grandchildren; his mother, Colleen Joy; one brother, Gary and his wife, Patty; other relatives and friends.
