Retia Mae Petersen was born November 7, 1930, the daughter of John and Lulu Petersen in rural Iowa. She passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2019, at her home in rural Earling, Iowa, at the age of eighty-eight.
Retia was raised in Dow City and graduated from Denison High School on May 26, 1949. She furthered her education by attending an airline school and was employed by Braniff and then Delta Airlines as a reservationist. Retia was baptized in Christ November 10, 1954, and was of the Lutheran faith before transferring her membership to the First Congregational Church in Dunlap when she moved back to Iowa in 2015.
Playing cards with family, bingo and socializing at the casinos were her favorite leisure time activities. She also enjoyed watching game shows such as Wheel of Fortune and Family Feud.
Retia was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Audrey and her husband Ben, Clara and her husband Matthew, and Bernice and her husband Ralph; four brothers, Raymond as an infant, Jack, Alfred and Leslie; sisters-in-law, Betty, Fern, Loretta and Rose; and brother-in-law, Melvin. Survivors include: one sister, Dorothy; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
