Richard Cary

January 13, 2021 — April 18, 2010

Rich Cary passed away peacefully on April 18, 2010, at his home in Forest Lake, Minnesota, after a two-year battle with melanoma. He is survived by Diane (Clark) his best friend and loving wife of 36 years; children: Matthew (Leah), Erin, and Anthony; mother Mary; sisters: Jean (Jerry), LuCinda (Joe) and Lisa (Matt) and brother, Casey (Heather); in-laws: Richard and Pat, Mary and Tom, Carol and Ed, and Peggy and Gary; 15 much-loved nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles. Preceded in death by father, Glen; baby sister, Maggie; grandparents: Leslie and Hazel; and Sherlock and Margaret.
Richard spent the majority of his adult life as a real estate broker. He enjoyed almost three decades of helping people find their homes in the Twin Cities. In those years he worked at Real Estate 10, Coldwell Banker, Counselor Realty, MacMay Realty, Greater Midwest Realty and FL Investments.
After his family, Richs greatest joy was the arts; he studied painting and ceramics at Briar Cliff College (BA) and Notre Dame University (MFA in Painting). Soon after coming to the Twin Cities Rich taught art at the Minnetonka Art Center and devoted much time in recent years to throwing pottery to share with loved ones and sell at art fairs.
Rich will be remembered for his eager smile, irresistible puns and amazingly beautiful singing voice. He was involved with the Paul Kaye Singers, with whom he sang at Lincoln Center; and more recently worked with Mounds View Community Theatre as an actor and board member. Rich loved to travel and visit museums all over the world with his family, read, play golf, cards and board games, learn about the world and take his "beautiful bride" to the movies.
Memorial services were held at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 21, 2010, in Forest Lake, Minnesota, at Mattson Funeral Home where family greeted friends until time of service; and also on Friday, April 23, 2010, at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison, Iowa, followed by a gathering at the Brasel building in Dow City, Iowa.
