Robert D. Petersen

Robert Dean Petersen was born May 12, 1944, the son of Marvin and Vivian Petersen. He passed away Tuesday, February 2, 2016, at his home in Denison, Iowa.
Robert was born in Davenport, Iowa, and received his education in the Denison Community School District. While in high school, he ran the Donna Reed Theater. After completing high school he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving as a Military Police and Supply officer for twenty years and serving on the reserves for ten years. As a young person, Robert worked on cars as a mechanic which he continued throughout his military career and after. Robert was also employed at Job Corps for several years, retiring in 1996, and then at American Concrete in Denison and Carroll.
On January 10, 1964, Robert was united in marriage to Virginia Lackman at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison by Fr. Casey, the couple was blessed with the birth of five children. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed traveling with his children, when they were younger, and fishing trips with his wife in Lake View, Spirit Lake, and Swan Lake.
Robert was by nature a homebody but he did love going to garage sales, antique stores, second hand stores and bingo, in Sioux City. He also enjoyed tinkering with electronics, going to coffee at Hy-Vee with Gene and Carrie, wrestling and attending local events.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Joseph Lee; and one brother, Chuck. Survivors include: his wife, Virginia; his children: Bobbie and her husband, Nick; Bruce and his wife, Vicky ; Mary and her husband, Tad; Carrie and her husband, Gene; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.
