Robert Martin

February 26, 1925 — December 4, 2012

Robert (Bob) Emanual Martin was born February 26, 1925, in San Diego, California, the son of Frank and Zella Wolz Martin. He died Tuesday, December 4, 2012, at the Creighton Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of 87.
Bob was born in San Diego, California and joined the Navy at an early age. He traveled around the world several times, living through many exciting historical events. After traveling with the Navy on active duty, he was a dedicated Navy Recruiter in Council Bluffs. Continuing his recruiting, he always tried to convince his grandsons and great-grandsons to enlist. Bob was united in marriage to Della Cross on August 19, 1952. The couple was blessed with one daughter.
Bob was also employed with the City of Council Bluffs, Crawford County Memorial Hospital and the Dow City-Arion Community School.
Bob and Della continued traveling after retirement, enjoying camping, fishing, and sightseeing, frequently taking their grandsons. In later years they enjoyed the warmer weather in Texas. Bob loved to talk and reminisce about his younger years of travel. He had a positive, upbeat look on life. Bob started his morning with the early morning coffee group at Ettlemans and truly enjoyed the company. He was one of a kind.
Besides his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Della; one brother; and one son-in-law, Dutch Malone.
Survivors include his daughter, Shirley Malone; two grandsons, Dale Malone and Byron Malone and his wife, Lori; two great-grandsons, Brett and Kurt Malone; all of Dow City, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Maxine Cross of Dunlap, Iowa; and Elsie Kelbig of Council Bluffs, Iowa; other relatives and friends.
