Robert Lee Meeves was born December 19, 1933, the son of Henry and Rubine Hollrah Meeves. He passed away at the Dunlap Nursing and Rehab Center in Dunlap, Iowa, on Sunday, January 13, 2013, at the age of 79.
Robert was born in Dunlap, Iowa. He received his education in the Charter Oak Community Schools graduating with the class of 1952. After graduation Robert helped his father on the family farm. On February 20, 1955, Robert was united in marriage to Joanne Cooper at the United Methodist Church in Charter Oak. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1956. Robert returned to the farm after his honorable discharge, where the couple lived for 58 years.
He loved his job, farming and feeding cattle, thriving on the hard work. Robert was a great steward of his land and enjoyed the solitary moments spent outside as he cared for and watched the oak trees grow in the surrounding timber of the farm. In his spare time, Robert liked to attend auctions and take trips to Vegas. He was a member of the Dunlap American Legion Post 224. He had a devoted faith in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and was a dedicated member of his church, St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak where he served on the Finance Board.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Joanne; four sons: Bruce and his wife, Denise; Bobby and his fianc, Cindy; H. Jerry; and Michael and his wife, Shelly; one daughter, Karen and her husband, Mark; seven grandchildren: Mandy, Sierra, Erin, Briana, Ryan, Tyler, and Kimarie; five great-grandchildren: Mark, Jullisa, Aubrey, Kyson, and Cody; special grandchildren: Victor, Colton, Brittany, Anna, Ali, and Ava; and one brother, Harvey and his wife, Gisela; other relatives and friends.
