Robert Vaughn

Robert Arthur Vaughn I was born October 13, 1931, the son of Aaron and Dorathy Haynes Vaughn. He died Wednesday, December 2, 2009, at Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, at the age of seventy-eight.
Robert was born in Cairo, Illinois. He received his education at Grand Blanc Michigan High School. After completing his education he worked at Pertascio Scrapyard for one year before moving to Flint, Michigan, where he worked for Buick Motors. It was while working at these two companies that he was exposed to asbestos and acquired mesothelioma cancer. He was united in marriage to Arlene. They were blessed with the birth of one son, Richard.
On August 17, 1968, Robert was united in marriage to Gloria Ortwine in her mothers backyard in Farmington Hills, Michigan. The couple was blessed with the birth of three children, Cheryl Lynn, Rebecca Jean and Robert Arthur II. In 1969, the couple moved to Iowa and Robert then began driving a gravel truck for Bob Benningsdorf, then a dump truck for Vern Tech and Builders Lumber, and finally he retired in 1996 after driving for Clarks Ready Mix.
He was a very loving husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family. In his spare time he liked to watch TV, especially boxing and Western movies; play cards, travel, and listen to Hank Williams Sr. music. He also enjoyed fishing and camping in Lake View, Storm Lake, and the Twin Lakes near Rockwell City. He became a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison where he was baptized and confirmed on July 6, 2008.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Richard; one infant daughter, Cheryl; five brothers: Harry, Floyd, Eugene, Thomas and Aaron Vaughn; and one sister, Marcella Vaughn. Survivors include his wife; Gloria of Denison; one daughter, Rebecca Friedrichsen of Schleswig and her husband, Bruce of Vail; one son, Robert and his wife, Janna of Carroll; six grandchildren: Sarah Vaughn, Jennifer Friedrichsen, Cheryl Vaughn, Robert Vaughn III, Kimberly McDonald and Scott White; five brothers: Howard and his wife, Judy of Vail; Phil and his wife, Rita of Dayton, Iowa; Doug and his fiancee, Connie Mulligan of Denison; Spence and his wife, Karen of Cainsville, Missouri; and Larry Vaughn of Denison; one sister, Sheila Schulte and her husband, Butch of Dunlap; one sister-in-law, Peg Vaughn of Carroll; special friend of the family, Logan McCullough of Schleswig; many nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends.
