Roger A. Henschen

October 15, 1936 — August 15, 2018

Roger Adolph Henschen was born October 15, 1936, at Ute, Iowa, the son of Adolph and Mildred Henschen. He passed away Wednesday, August 15, 2018, at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa, at the age of eighty-one.
Roger was baptized in Christ March 12, 1948, and confirmed his faith January 17, 1956, both at St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak, Iowa. He received his education in the schools near his home before beginning his life-long career of farming. Roger was united in marriage to Luella Schau on February 10, 1963, at the United Methodist Church in Charter Oak, Iowa, and they were blessed with the birth of three children, Brian, Jim and Lori.
Farming and animals were a big part of his life until his retirement; he liked milking cows and was very kind to the animals, including cattle, hogs, ducks, geese, chickens, turkeys, goats, even the cats living in the barn. Vegetable gardening brought him much enjoyment – raising vegetables, sweet corn and potatoes and then canning them, making horseradish and sauerkraut. He also enjoyed woodworking, listening to the radio, especially old time radio shows such as the Kitchen Klatter program, and watching METV, especially Bonanza, Gunsmoke, Big Valley and Golden Girls. Roger was a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, always sharing stories with the children.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include: his wife, Luella; two sons, Brian and his wife, LeeAnn; and Jim and his wife, Peggy Sue; one daughter, Lori and her husband, Dennis; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister, Norma; one brother, Dennis and his wife, Betty; other relatives and friends.
