Roland Huebner

Roland Carl Huebner was born February 2, 1928, the son of Herman and Hilaria Wenzel Huebner. He passed away at the Manilla Manor in Manilla, Iowa, on April 3, 2012, at the age of 84.
Roland was born in Schleswig, Iowa. He was baptized February 26, 1928, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hanover Township in Charter Oak, Iowa, and confirmed March 29,1942, at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. He received his elementary education at Zion Lutheran School in Denison and his high school education in the Carroll Community Schools graduating with the class of 1946. Roland entered the U.S. Army on October 24, 1950 and served in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on October 24, 1952, receiving the Good Conduct and Korean Theatre medals. Roland was united in marriage to Agnes "Peggy" Blum on January 12, 1951, at Fort Rucker, Alabama. After several moves, the family made their home in Manilla and were blessed with the birth of two children. Roland owned and operated an auto body repair shop and also worked for the U. S. Post Office as a rural mail carrier.
Roland was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Manilla. He served five terms as an elder, with two of those terms as chairman, sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, was a member of the Evangelism committee and helped to usher. Roland was also a member of Lions International, M & M Country Club Board, Crawford County Rural Carriers, Manilla Fire Department, Manilla Chamber of Commerce, and the Manilla City Council. He enjoyed golfing, reading, rebuilding damaged vehicles, making wood crafts, and dancing. Roland was a well versed traveler, having visited Europe, Canada, and 48 contiguous U.S. states.
Roland was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Agnes in 2009; two sons, Chad in infancy and Rodney; and his sister, Maxineand her husband, Duane. He is survived by one daughter, Constance; one sister, Janice and her husband, Joe; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
