Ronald George Reiser was born in Butte, Nebraska on Dec. 28, 1930. The son of Frank and Mary Reiser, he was one of 9 children raised on the family farm. He graduated from high school in 1948 after which he taught country school for two years. He then enrolled at Creighton where he attended for two years also. He volunteered for the Army in which he was trained in anti-aircraft artillery and then was stationed in Okinawa, Japan for 16 months during the Korean War. He honorably served his country from July 1,1952 to June 16, 1954. After he was discharged from the service, he went back home to Butte for a year. He began farming in Denison, Iowa with his brother Joe Reiser and also worked for the Defiance Bank for a year, after which he began farming on his own.
He married Alice Schwarte on April 21, 1958 in Earling, Iowa. To that union they were blessed with 6 children. Ron enjoyed raising hogs, cattle, and especially bottle calves. As a farmer, he was a good steward of the land. He was an avid Husker fan, and a highlight in his life was getting to attend a Husker game with 2 of his brothers and many Reiser relatives in 2010. Another highlight two years ago was going to Alaska. He liked to play cards, go bowling, read about history, and listen to politics while having a sandwich, a candy bar, or peanuts close at hand. He was a member of the Pork Producers, the Crawford County Cattlemen’s Association and the American Legion Post 8 of Denison, Iowa. He was a 3rd and 4th Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus.
