Rose E Kolln

October 5, 1931 — January 20, 2016

Rose Edna Kolln was born October 5, 1931, the daughter of Miller and Margaret Petersen. She died at her home in Denison, Wednesday, January 20, 2016, at the age of eighty-four.
Rose grew up on a farm near Gray, Iowa. She began her early education in Gray but continued with high school in the Dow City Community High School. At the age of 15, she began working at Montgomery Ward in Denison with her friend and future sister-in-law, Melba
Rose met her husband Eldon while roller skating in Denison, and she knew immediately that he was the man for her. The couple were united in marriage June 4, 1949, at the Methodist Church in Denison. They settled on a farm near Denison and were blessed with the birth of four children.
Rose was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. Working on the farm with her husband was considered a pleasure more than labor. She was so involved with her family that she could be coaxed to do almost anything with them, but would draw the line when it came to zip lining. However, go carts were considered fair game. Thursday afternoons were occupied with other members of her bowling league. In her leisure time, she enjoyed embroidery, and embroidered pillow cases for all of her grandchildren. Some of the activities she included in her life were socializing over coffee, watching Mel Tillis, RFD TV, and The Grand Ole Opery. She enjoyed tea parties, playing pool, cards, and board games with her grandchildren along with an occasional game of miniature golf. Baking, reading Christian novels and inspirational books, the Holy Bible and her devotions occupied her quiet time. She frequently left Bible Verses and spiritual messages on sticky notes around her home. In November of 1984, she prayed to receive Christ as her Savior the Lord.
Rose was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eldon in 2010; two daughters, Karen in infancy and Lori; her brother Wayne Petersen. Survivors include one son, John and his wife, Kim; one daughter, Karla and her husband, Kevin; one son-in-law, Bill; eleven grandchildren: Rachel(Chris), Aaron, Matthew, Patrick, Kristin (Evan), Sarah, Katherine, Keith, Jack, Jenna and Nicole; and three great-grandchildren, Allyson, Michael, Chloe and one additional great-grandchild expected in June; one sister, Irene; many other relatives and friends.
