Roy Manford Johnson

Roy Manford Johnson was born on July 9, 1928, the son of Gunner and Anna (Jessen) Johnson of Ida Grove, Iowa. He graduated from Schleswig High School with the class of 1945. Following his education, he started farming with his dad. Roy enlisted into the United States Army and faithfully served until his honorable discharge.

Roy married Alice (Jochims) Gehring on June 28, 1959, at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig. Roy farmed in Ida County until his retirement in 1995, and the couple then moved to their home in Schleswig. Following retirement, he spent several years working at the FAC in Schleswig.

Roy was a lifetime member of the United Church of Christ as well as a longtime member of the VFW in Schleswig. He loved playing cards and socializing over morning coffee with his friends at KCK’s in Schleswig. He enjoyed his 95^th birthday celebration with family and friends.

Roy passed away at his home on Thursday, January 4, 2024, at the age of 95 years, five months and 26 days.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Alice Johnson in 2012; son-in-law, Norman Friedrichsen in 1999; step-grandson, Ricky Friedrichsen; step-great-grandson, Chad Brown; and sister: Mary Ellen Ludwig. He is survived by his step-daughter, Zola Friedrichsen of Schleswig; step-grandchildren: Randy (Linda) Friedrichsen of Parker, Colorado and Vicky (Les) Brown of Denison; step-great-grandchildren: Stacey (Steve) Vaughn of Parker, Colorado; nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at the Huebner Funeral Home in Schleswig. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig. Interment with military honors will follow in the Morgan Cemetery.
