Russell Lee Rickers was born March 11, 1951, at Carroll, Iowa, the son of Vernon and Elsie Rickers. He passed away Saturday, December 2, 2017, at his home in Westside, Iowa, at the age of sixty-six.
Russell received his education in the schools near his home and graduated from Ar-We-Va High School with the class of 1969. He was united in marriage with Shelli Steenhusen in 1982 at Irwin, Iowa. He later married Diana Dixon in Denison, Iowa in 1991.
He was proudly employed in maintenance for thirty years at Farmland in Denison, Iowa. Previously he farmed for a while, worked at Dubuque Pack, was employed at Calcar (FS Westside) and owned R & R Repair.
Fishing and later in life boating particularly in Minnesota, were among his favorite pastimes. He also enjoyed planting his garden and petunias each summer, trap shooting, and later target practice on the sparrows in the backyard with his bb gun. He was a devoted reader of the newspaper especially the “Funnies” and sci fi / fantasy books. He enjoyed his bird feeders, science fiction tv / movies, collecting Budweiser beer steins and working at fixing things. Socializing with friends also brought him much pleasure.
Russell was preceded in death by his parents and a stepdaughter, Angel. Survivors include: his wife, Diana; one daughter, Heather and her husband, Jeremy; two stepsons, Josh and his wife, Anya, and Adam; three grandchildren, Ashlynd, Dakota and Payton; three brothers, Lyle and his wife, Denise, Curtis, and John and his wife, Sheila; other relatives and friends.
