Russell Anthony Wood was born March 26, 1965, the son of Lloyd and Rose Mary Lee Wood. He passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 6, 2011, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll, Iowa, at the age of forty-five.
Russell, known to many as "Russ," was one of eight children. He was born in Fort Dodge, Iowa. In his younger years he lived on the family farm outside of Dow City, Iowa. At the age of seven, he was enrolled in the Glenwood State School where he continued to expand his knowledge and skills of residential living. In December of 1992, Russell was relocated to New Hope Village to be closer to his family where he was a resident until his death.
He loved spending time with his family and care providers. Russ loved cars, especially going too "fast" in them. He enjoyed Nascar Races, Mecum Car Auctions, helping with daily chores, and playing games with the children of the family.
Russ touched the lives of many people with his infectious smile and loving heart. To have known him was to have experienced a relationship with a special man whose non-verbal way of communicating far transcended that of words alone. To have him kiss your hand or pretend to shoot you was a signature expression of his love and happiness. He maintained his trademark sense of humor and positive attitude until the end.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Rose Mary, and brother, Jeff. Russ will forever be remembered by his father, Lloyd "Sonny"; his devoted brothers: Joe; the late Jeff Wood and his wife, Jeannie; Jim and his wife, Denise; Dan and his wife, Heather; half brother, Kelly; loving sisters: Toni and her husband, Kelly; Tami and her husband, Tom; Shanna and her husband Merv; other relatives and friends.
Russ....Your infectious smile will shine in us forever!
We would like to extend a special thank you to New Hope Village for taking our son and brother into your home and treating him like one of your own. The care and love you gave him allowed him to express his explosive enthusiasm and love for life. You filled his days with a supportive routine of challenges, accomplishments, and rewards, and treated him with the respect he deserved. For all this the family is forever grateful!
