Ruth Ann Brink was born on October 2, 1938, the daughter of Walter and Florence (Tellgren) Herrig near Wall Lake, Iowa. Most of her childhood was spent in the Vail area. She received her education in the Dow City-Arion School District.
On October 30, 1954, Ruth married John Louis Brink. Together, they made their home in the Dow City area and were blessed with three children. Throughout her life, Ruth dedicated herself to hard work and service, holding positions at the Kent Feed Store in Dow City and City Auto Parts in Denison, before retiring from the Dow City school district.
Ruth was a devoted member of the Dow City United Methodist Church and proudly served with the American Legion Auxiliary. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures, playing cards and games, solving jigsaw puzzles, reading, watching game shows, and playing Bingo. She also loved playing the guitar and singing, traveling, and above all, cherishing the time spent with her family and friends.
Ruth passed away on Friday, April 18, 2025, at her home in Grimes, Iowa at the age of 86 years, six months and 16 days. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Brink; grandson, Luke Sigler; great-grandson, Tyson; siblings: Earl “Joe” Herrig, Maydell Brandt, Myrna Voege, Delbert “Louie” Herrig, Merlin “Sam” Herrig and infant brother, Darrell.
Ruth is survived by her children: Teresa (Dan) Case of Grimes, Janet (Dave) Jackson of Council Bluffs and Steve (Mavis) Brink of Hazel, South Dakota; seven grandchildren: Michelle (Dave) Sigler, Travis (Jill) Case, Kristen (Josh) Weinfurter, Nick Jackson, Kellie (Arthur) Jackson, Jeremiah (Kaylene) Brink, and Maria (Justin) Urlacher; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and many other family members and friends.
Visitation with the family greeting friends will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison. Her funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at the United Methodist Church in Dow City. Interment will take place in the Dow City Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family.
