Ruth L. Anderson

Ruth Lucille (Rule) Anderson was born at home in Arion, Iowa, August 10, 1924, the daughter of Robert L. and Margaret Rule. The family moved to Denison in her early childhood where she attended school, graduating from high school in 1942. Following high school she attended business college in Omaha and worked for Greyhound Bus Company before returning to Denison On November 11, 1945, Ruth was united in marriage with Joseph Warren Anderson at the First Baptist Church in Denison. Their union was blessed with three daughters – Margit, Vicki and Gayle. Ruth raised her daughters from home and returned to work at the Crawford County Auditors Office in 1961. Her dedication to her job led to accepting position of Deputy County Auditor. She continued working full-time at the courthouse, retiring after 53 years of service in 2004.
Ruth was an active member of the First Baptist Church which she joined upon marriage, where she taught Sunday school, was a member of the choir and served as treasurer for nearly 40 years. She was a long-time member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, American Legion Auxiliary and Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). She loved children and enjoyed the friendship of many who shared cups of coffee together over the years. She was an avid "clipper" and shared many pieces of wisdom and humor with those close to her. Ruth's dearest memories were those of her 2 year-old great-granddaughter. She enjoyed reading and sewing, and loved her family and friends.
Ruth is survived by her daughter Gayle and husband Timothy; her granddaughter Shawn and husband Andrew; her great-granddaughter Olivia; 1 sister Rachel; two brothers Robert and Craig; several sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Joe in 1977, 2 daughters Margit and Vicki, her parents, and 2 sisters Frances and Barbara.
