Ruth LaVern Overhue was born October 12, 1930, the daughter of Fred and Alta Freese. She died Wednesday, December 5, 2018, at the Denison Care Center in Denison, Iowa, at the age of eighty-eight.
Ruth was born and grew up on a farm north of Westside, Iowa. She received her education in a rural school near her home and graduated from the Westside High School with the class of 1949. After completing her education, she was employed as a waitress in Westside until moving to Denison with her parents. She then worked in various restaurants in Denison.
On September 1, 1963, Ruth was united in marriage to Frank Overhue at the United Presbyterian Church in Denison. The couple made their home on a farm south of Charter Oak, Iowa, and were blessed with the birth of one daughter. They moved to Denison in 1987.
Ruth loved visiting with friends and relatives and enjoyed watching court shows, Wheel of Fortune and playing bingo.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frank in 1996; and her brother, Lloyd. Survivors include: one daughter, Cheryl and her husband, Duane; sisters-in-law, Gertrude, Geraldine, Verla, Marlis and Wardene; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
