Sandra Lee Downs

Sandra Lee Downs was born April 21, 1955 in Littleton, Colorado, the daughter of William "Bill" and Linda (Hill) Ferguson. She graduated from high school in Littleton, Colorado. After graduation, she started working at the horse race tracks which led to owning many of her own race horses. One of her favorite past times were taking them to races around the United States.

In 1973, Sandra married Tommy Pollard and the couple later divorced. In 1980, Sandra married Jeff Downs and in 1982, they were blessed with twins, one boy and one girl: Nickolas and Tamra. They made their home in Stockton, California, then Littleton, Colorado before Sandra moved to Iowa in 2009.

Sandra enjoyed listening to music, especially the oldies, playing scratch off tickets, Pac-man, and Tetris. She loved going on road trips, time at the beach, cooking, gumball machines, and spending time with her family.

Sandra passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Sunday, April 9, 2023 at Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, attaining the age of 67 years, 11 months, and 19 days. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Bill Ferguson; sister, Debbie Starnes; and loving dog, Bailey T Dog.

She is survived by her son, Nickolas Downs of Denison; daughter, Tami Downs of Denison; son, Timothy; grandchildren: Jordyn Downs of Carroll, Elijah Downs of Marysville, California, Daston Lawler of Wall Lake and Asher Lawler of Wall Lake; great-grandchildren: Kendrick Stonerook, Natalie Stonerook and Bentley Wolfe all of Carroll; brother-in-law, Don Starnes of Aurora, Colorado; nephew, Donnie Starnes of Aurora, Colorado; niece, Amber Starnes of Aurora, Colorado; other relatives and friends.

Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Friday, April 21, 2023 at the Yellow Smoke Lookout Shelter in Denison.
