Sandra Mae Lawson was born January 22, 1950, the daughter of Murlyn and LaMae Johannsen Aronson. She was called home to be with Jesus on Saturday, June 19, 2010, in Harrison County near Missouri Valley, Iowa, at the age of sixty.
Sandy was born in Denison, Iowa, and baptized at St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak, Iowa. She attended St. Johns Lutheran School and graduated from Charter Oak-Ute High School in 1968. She attended Concordia Teachers College in Seward, Nebraska, graduating in 1972. On July 15, 1972, Sandy was united in marriage to Herman Lawson at St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. They both started teaching at St. Michaels Lutheran School in Fort Myers, Florida, where Sandy taught from 1972-1976. In 1981 they moved to Pompano Beach, Florida, where both taught at Hope Lutheran School until 1993. In 1993 they moved to Napa, California, where they both taught at St. Johns Lutheran School. In 2003 Sandy and Herman moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, where they taught in Lutheran schools. Sandy taught at Christ Lutheran School from 2003-2010.
The couple was blessed with thirty-seven years of marriage. They were also blessed with three sons: Jeremy Herman in 1976, Joshua Wayne in 1978, and Timothy Aaron in 1980. She always enjoyed attending her sons sporting events. She was extremely proud of the men her sons have become and also proud of the daughters-in-law who were added to her family. She enjoyed visiting and talking regularly on the phone with family. She dearly loved her grandson, Henry John, and especially enjoyed shopping for him and relished in knowing every small detail about him over the last nine months. She also liked to spend time at home and enjoyed baking and cooking.
Sandy was a very loving and devoted daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother. She was also a dedicated teacher with a love for all her students and their families. She was blessed with many wonderful colleagues and she was a blessing to them as well. Her faith in the Lord was strong and she was confident in the promise of her salvation and being with Jesus.
Sandy was preceded in death by her mother, LaMae Aronson; her grandparents, Carl and Hulda Johannsen, and Fred and Carolina Aronson. Her sister, Devie Aronson also passed away Saturday, June 19, 2010. Survivors include her husband, Herman Lawson; three sons:Jeremy Lawson and his wife, Colleen and their son Henry John of Sacramento, California; Joshua Lawson of Napa, California; and Rev. Timothy Lawson and his wife Ruth of Omaha, Nebraska; her father, Murlyn of Charter Oak; one sister, Wendy Maas and her husband, Leon of Charter Oak; two aunts, Elfie Riessen and Gladys Wessel; nieces and nephews: Amy and Nick Schumacher and their daughters, Sophia and Claire of Early, Iowa; Jason and Jessica Maas and their daughter, Avary of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Angela Maas and her friend, Bill Schumann of Cherokee, Iowa; Jackie and Bradley Graham and their son, Niles, of Papillion, Nebraska; other relatives and many friends.
A memorial service will be held at Christ Lutheran Church in Murray, Utah, on Saturday, July 3, 2010.
