Sandra Vennink

Sandra Kay Vennink was born February 26, 1942, the daughter of Frank and Virginia Baer Jorgensen. She passed away Sunday, February 24, 2013, at Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of 70.
Sandra was born in Carroll, Iowa. She was baptized in Christ at the Presbyterian Church in Manilla, Iowa, coincidentally on the same day as her future husband. Sandra received her education in the Manilla Community Schools graduating with the class of 1960. She earned her teaching degree at Northwest Missouri State graduating in 1964 and began her teaching career in Racine, Wisconsin. After one year in Racine, she moved back to Iowa and taught in the Manning Community School until 1969. For the next 12 years, she taught in Manilla until 1981 and also served on the school board there for eight years. Sandra was most recently a teachers aid in Harlan and Wall Lake View Auburn until retiring at age 65. In 1966 Sandra was united in marriage to Marvin Dean Vennink in Manilla, Iowa, and to this union was born two sons.
Sandra enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and delighted in taking them out for dinner. She was a born teacher, an avid reader, and a member of the Iowa Reading Association, several book clubs, and the Federated Womens Club. She loved to cook for others and her recipes and kitchen were featured in a national publication. Her specialties were homemade cinnamon rolls and bread. Sandra loved to travel and was able to visit the Holy Land four years ago. Sandra loved music and loved to play the piano. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Carroll where she was a Sunday School teacher, a member of Ladies Circle, and was involved in other activities at the church.
Sandra was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister-in-law, Katherine Jorgensen. Survivors include two sons: Brandon Vennink and his wife, Lei Ray Yu of Southbridge, Massachusetts; and Byron Vennink and his wife, Candace of Woodbine, Iowa; one sister, Karen Swanson and her husband, Larry of Plattsmouth, Nebraska; and one brother, Richard Jorgensen of Des Moines, Iowa; seven grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
