Sharon Lea Riley was born February 17, 1939, at Denison, Iowa, the daughter of Reed and Evelyn Kinney. She died at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa, Wednesday, January 18, 2017, at the age of seventy-seven.
Sharon was baptized in Christ September 17, 1939, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Dow City and confirmed March 29, 1953, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Stockholm Township, Kiron, Iowa, by Pastor L.S. Winter. She received her education in area schools and graduated from Odebolt High School with the class of 1957.
Sharon and Gerald Riley were united in marriage August 30, 1959, at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison . The couple was blessed with the birth of three daughters. She was employed at Dubuque Packing Company for fifteen years in quality control and at Eventide Lutheran Home in the Star Unit as a nurses aid for sixteen years.
In her leisure time, she enjoyed gardening and canning, fishing at Spirit Lake and Linn Grove and camping with their 5th wheeler. They also traveled to Mt. Rushmore, Branson and Kentucky. She had a fondness for her pet coon named Bubbles and a dog named Spot. Her favorite TV programs included Price is Right, Gunsmoke, Roy Rogers, Big Valley, Bonanza and Andy Griffith. Sharon enjoyed socializing at family reunions and when people visited her home, being the good cook that she was, she always offered them something to eat and the coffee pot was always on.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Kenneth. Survivors include: her husband, Gerald; three daughters, Brenda and her husband, Steve; Barbara and her husband, Marcial; and Brigitte and her husband, Ken; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Donald “Butch” and his wife, Laura Faye and Dale and his wife, Penny; and one sister-in-law, Shirley; other relatives and friends.
