Shirley A. Ahart

Shirley Ann Ahart was born April 7, 1938, at Denison, Iowa, the daughter of William and Lena (Plagge) Namanny. She passed away Monday, December 11, 2017, at the home of her daughter at Neola, Iowa, at the age of seventy-nine.
Shirley received her education in the Denison schools and graduated from Denison High School with the class of 1957. She was employed at Mutual of Omaha until her marriage to William Ahart March 4, 1958, at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. After moving back to Denison following her marriage, she was employed as a secretary at Iowa Beef Processors, then at Poggensee Electric, Anthony’s Department Store, and at Denison Job Corps from which she retired in 2001.
In her leisure time, Shirley enjoyed sewing, crafts, cross stitch, watching birds, gardening, puzzles and reading especially James Patterson and romance and mysteries. She also enjoyed taking road trips with friends, bus trips and the Alaska trip, and going to the casinos. She was a good cook and will be remembered for her chicken Her favorite television programs were Survivor, Wheel of Fortune and Grey’s Anatomy. She always had dogs and they brought her great companionship. Shirley was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and enjoyed family gatherings.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William; one son, Dale Ahart; three brothers, Wilbert Namanny and his wife, Maxine, Kenny Namanny and Leonard Namanny and his wife, Esther; one sister, LaDene Hickey; and one brother-in-law, Don Weed. Survivors include: two sons; Michael Ahart; and Joseph Ahart and his wife, Marla all of Denison, Iowa; one daughter, Julie Fischer and her husband, Matt of Neola, Iowa; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and one on the way; one brother, William Namanny and his wife, Audrey of Carroll, Iowa; two sisters, Marcella Petersen and her husband, Melvin of Schleswig, Iowa; and Donna Mae Weed of Norfolk, Nebraska; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Namanny of Denison, Iowa; other relatives and friends.
