Shirley was born on March 11, 1934 to Clara Huebner Davis and Archibald Davis. Wife of the late Phillip Rattenborg passed away on October 28, 2017, at Windsor Manor in Shenandoah, Iowa.
Shirley was born at the home of her grandparents in Denison, Iowa. She attended Zion Lutheran Grade School and graduated from Denison High School in 1952. She attended Immanuel Hospital School of Nursing in Omaha, Nebraska, graduating in 1955. On June 3rd she married Phillip Rattenborg in Denison, Iowa. They married after Phil came back from the Korean War and she had finished nursing school. They were blessed with two daughters, Christy and Becky.
After a brief move to Omaha, Nebraska, Shirley and Phil moved to Shenandoah, Iowa in 1962, where they resided until their move to Essex, Iowa to raise both daughters. Shirley was an RN and the Director of Nursing at Hand Hospital in Shenandoah, Iowa, followed by Director of Nursing at Grape Community Hospital in Hamburg, Iowa. After her Nursing career she received her Real Estate license working for United Group in 1981. She was a member of Fremont-Page Board of Realtors, Past President of the American Legion Auxiliary and Past President of Southwest Iowa Director of Nurses. Shirley was member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Essex and served on the Church Council.
Above all what she enjoyed most was Bridge, playing with multiple Duplicate Bridge Clubs, couples groups and weekly groups. She had also always been an avid reader since childhood.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years Phillip and brother Jim. She is survived by her daughter, Christy (Brian); grandchildren, Laura(Jeff); great-grandsons, Colton and Quentin; granddaughter, Alicia(Matt); twins Zach and Jenna and great-granddaughter, Reagan; Sarah (Jeremy); great-granddaughter, Kate and great-grandson, Brock; daughter, Becky(Barry);grandson, Brandon (Tara) and grandson, Phillip.
