Stephen G. Hanson Miller

Stephen Gordon Hanson Miller was born on May 8, 1957, to Michael Amandus Hanson and Angele Marie-Therese Mougeon on an army base near Verdun, France. When he was one year old, the family moved to the United States and his early years were spent in Merrillville, Indiana and Farmersburg, Iowa.

Stephen was a very quiet, private man who only allowed a few people to get close. He was a hard, dedicated worker at Tyson Meat and he never missed a day at work. He was passionate about life and the outdoors. He especially enjoyed fishing in Minnesota with his close friend, Frank. Nothing made him happier than flying to Chicago to watch the White Sox with his dad. He was a loyal fan of the Minnesota Vikings and a fierce fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes. Steve had a soft spot for his dog and his cat, Sparky.

On October 1, 2014, Steve lost the love of his life of almost 20 years, Michelle and his life was never the same after her passing. At that time, he decided that he wanted to be buried beside her at Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison.

Steve’s close friends, Jimmy and Matt would take Steve to chemo and radiation appointments. They enjoyed betting against each other on different football and baseball games. Their friendship was a remarkable one, filled with compassion, laughter and fun.

Stephen passed away on September 18, 2020, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa at the age of 63 years, four months and ten days. Due to Stephen being a private person who didn’t want to burden anyone, he died alone. Knowing he is pain free and at peace brings some comfort to the ones who love him.

Stephen was preceded in death by his life partner, Michelle Giermann; loving father, Michael Amandus Hanson; step-mother, Geraldine Hanson; and nephew, Jesse A. Hanson Lagman . He is survived by his mother, Angele Mougeon of Nancy, France; siblings, James Sievers of Slidell of Louisiana, Aline (Jerry) Bruck of Harlan, Iowa, Richard Hanson of Elkhorn, Wisconsin, Julie (Jo Ann Lagman) Hanson of Batavia, Illinois, Kjel (LorieAnn) Hanson of Wheeling, Illinois, Paul Hanson of Blackhawk, Colorado; nieces, Andrea Nippert, Kari Hanson and Lillian Hanson; and nephews, Benjamin Bruck and John Hanson; and many other relatives and friends.
