Steven James Slater

April 1, 1950 — November 3, 2020

Steven James Slater was born in Denison, Iowa on April 1, 1950, the son of James and Dorothy (Greder) Slater. He completed his education at the Iowa School of Deaf in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Upon completing his education, Steve moved to the Denison area where he worked for Midcontinent Trucking and carpentry work.

Later, Steve moved to his home in Dow City where he raised his children. He continued his carpentry work and worked for local farmers. Steve loved doing woodworking in his spare time, remodeling his home and cheering on his favorite football teams. He enjoyed being with his close friends at the Sioux City Deaf Club where he was treasurer.

Steve died on November 3, 2020 at Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine, Iowa attaining the age of seventy-years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Tom Slater.

Those remaining to cherish his memory include his three children, Barb and her husband Brett Moody of Newburgh, Indiana, Heather Slater and Dan of Smithland, Iowa, Jake Slater and fianc Mary of Dow City; three granddaughters, Hayley, Danaca and Emily; sister, Becky and husband Jim Randol of Dow City; brothers, Denny Slater and wife Sandy of Denison, Curt Slater of Defiance, Iowa; nieces, nephews and many friends.

Celebration of life is Thursday, November 5, 2020 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Brasel Building in Dow City, Iowa.
