Theodore Robert Miller was born September 14, 1936, the son of Fred and Hertha Miller, on the family's homestead, Lawn Grove Farm, located in Hanover Township, Iowa. He passed away Thursday morning, January 10, 2019, at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa, at the age of eighty-two.
Ted received his education in the country schools and completed his schooling at the Denison Community Schools in Denison, Iowa. Ted served his country in the United States Army for three years as a Private First Class including service in the 24th Chemical Company (Decon) during the Cuban Missile Crisis, before being honorably discharged in 1965. Ted was baptized in Christ December 6, 1962, and confirmed his faith December 16, 1962, both at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa.
On September 5, 1964, Ted was united in marriage with LaJune Fay Dethlefsen at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. The couple made their home initially in Denison before settling in Buck Grove, Iowa. The couple was blessed with the birth of two children, Bobby Miller stillborn May 1, 1969, and Robert Theodore Miller born June 30, 1973.
Ted was employed as a mechanic at Deep Rock Service Station following his return from the service and was subsequently employed at White Star Dairy as a rural delivery man until 1978. He was then employed for twenty years by the Crawford County Road Department until his retirement in December of 1998. Ted's dedication was not only to his family but also his community and church as he served many years on the Buck Grove City Council, was a member of Veterans Post #444 of Dow City, was a past secretary of St. John Lutheran Church voters of Buck Grove, and was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. He also enjoyed many hobbies such as gardening, metal scrapping, woodworking and fabricating original pictures for his grandchildren. Ted found great joy in spending time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Fred and Hertha; son, Bobby; one brother, John; and one sister-in-law, Pat and one brother-in-law John. Survivors include: his wife, LaJune; son, Robert and his wife, Danette; three grandchildren, Jensen, Koen and Isabel (Izzi); four brothers, Fred, David and his wife, Sandra, Joe and his wife, Beverly, and Tommy; two sisters, Doris and Ruby; one sister-in-law, Marlyn and her husband, Robert; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
