Thomas James Gorman was born June 25, 1949, the son of Albert and Elaine Gorman. He died Tuesday, November 1, 2016, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of sixty-seven. He has battled an autoimmune disease, Primary Biliary Cholangitis for the past few years.
Tom was born in Sioux City, Iowa. He received his education in Jefferson, South Dakota, graduating from high school in 1968. He continued his education at the University of South Dakota at Springfield graduating with the class of 1972 and received his masters degree from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 1976. August 2, 1972, Tom was united in marriage to Jeanne Marie Trudeau at the St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Jefferson, South Dakota and was blessed with the birth of three daughters.
Tom's first teaching job was in the Dow City Community School, where he taught Industrial Arts and coached girls basketball from 1972 to 1976. Then he became the Vice Principal at the Denison High School until 2006 where he developed many strong bonds with students and staff. In 2006 Tom accepted a position at KATY ISD in Katy, Texas where his daughter, Kristi, was also a teacher. He retired from the field of education in 2012 after serving students for 39 years.
He was very proud of his daughters and grandchildren and enjoyed attending their sporting and music events. He also enjoyed fishing and camping in South Dakota. He enjoyed many rounds of golf with his friends and family. Another one of his top priorities was having coffee daily with his friends. Many days you would find him working on carpentry projects, as Jeanne and Tom enjoyed remodeling homes. Tom was a fan of both the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and The University of South Dakota Coyotes.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include: his wife Jeanne, of 44 years; three daughters: Katie and her husband, Scott; Kristi and her husband, Mickey; and Maggie; nine grandchildren: Sam, Kailey, Taylor, Maddie, Peyton, Brooks, Ali, Ryan and Mark; one sister, Susan; brothers and sisters-in-law: Joe and Jackie; Janet and Mike; Mary and Mike; John and Lora; Mark and Cori; an uncle, Marvin, and many other relatives and friends.
