Thomas Meehan

Thomas Patrick Meehan was born March 1, 1946, the son of John and Madonna Hanrahan Meehan. He passed away Friday, November 8, 2013, at his home in Denison, Iowa, at the age of 67.
Tom was born in Denison, Iowa and grew up on the family farm near Vail, Iowa. He received his education St. Ann’s Catholic School in Vail, graduating with the class of 1964. On November 21, 1970, he was united in marriage to Jean Edgington. The couple made their home on a farm near Vail and were blessed with the birth of four children. After raising his family he went to work in construction industry, working for various contractors in the area. In the late 1980's, he went to work in the maintenance department at the Crawford County Court House in Denison.
Tom was a loving and caring father and grandfather who always put his family first. Visiting with his family and friends and joking with them was a past time he looked forward to. He enjoyed baking cakes, cookies, pies and was precise about measuring ingredients. He had a sweet tooth for the sweets he baked along with ice cream and Pepsi. He enjoyed listening to background music at home and was especially fond of polkas, gardening, race tracks and steam engines. His days often started with reading the paper, usually from beginning to end. In his leisure time, he could be found socializing with his old farming friends over coffee, attending antique auctions, bargain shopping or wood working in his shop. Notable creations included building miniature buildings and a dolly cradle for his grandchildren. He was a thrifty man for his personal needs, but generous with others. His faith was important to him and was a devoted member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include: two daughters: Stacy Meehan of Northfield, Minnesota; Kelle Musehl and her husband, Jeff of Faribault, Minnesota; two sons: John Meehan and his wife, Andrea of Owatonna, Minnesota; and James Meehan of Faribault, Minnesota; four grandchildren, Jacob, Sidney, Hunter and Kaelee; and one sister, Mary Meehan of Denison; other relatives and friends.
