Tim Houston

December 14, 1957 — June 6, 2024

Timothy James Houston was born on December 14, 1957, the son of Patrick Leo and Lois Anne (Lenz) Houston in Denison, Iowa. He was baptized and later confirmed his faith at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Tim received his education from Denison High School and graduated with the class of 1976.

On August 12, 1989, Tim married Kelli Maack at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and the couple was blessed with two children: Lexi and Sean. They made their home west of Denison on the family farm and within recent years it became a Century Farm. Throughout his lifetime, Tim worked various jobs, but his passion was farming and cattle.

Tim was a man of faith and commitment, evident through his membership at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus as a Fourth Degree Knight. From a young age, Tim found joy in working alongside his father on the farm, taking pride in completing chores and tending to the land. This strong work ethic and sense of values were carried with him throughout his life. As time passed, Tim's focus shifted to the next generation when his children took over the responsibilities on the farm, allowing him to witness the fulfillment of a cycle - from working with his father to seeing his own children step into those roles. Whether in the laughter-filled days of his youth or during the peaceful moments spent watching his children play, Lake View held a special place in his heart. Often, one could see him out “crop scouting” and having “safety meetings” with the boys. He shared laughter and camaraderie with friends old and new at the Oasis and other local watering holes. Tim’s charismatic personality and genuine warmth made forming connections effortless for him. He also enjoyed spending time at the sale barn and treasured every moment spent alongside his wife, children, and adored granddaughter, creating memories that will be forever etched in their hearts. Tim will be remembered for doing what he wanted to do and living his life to the fullest.

Tim passed away at his home on Thursday, June 6, 2024, at the age of 66 years, five months and 23 days.

Tim was preceded in death by his parents; brother, John Patrick Houston; brother-in-law, Duane Wessel; and two nephews: Lance Maack and Cole Schneider. He is survived by his wife of over 34 years, Kelli Houston of Denison; daughter, Lexi (Aaron) Wallace of Early; son, Sean Houston (Shania Wunschel) of Dow City; granddaughters, Finnlee and another on the way; sisters: Colette Marsh, Barbara (Steve Constance) Houston, Sally (Herb) Quandt, Jane (Rick) Carstensen and Anne (Mike) Power; parents-in-law, Larry and Leila Maack; siblings-in-law, Russ (Beth) Maack, Kristi Wessel, Royce “Louie” Maack, K’Lynn (Craig) Harm; many nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
