Tom Wendt

August 14, 1960 — June 7, 2024

Eugene Thomas Wendt, affectionately known as "Tom", was born on August 14, 1960, in Iowa City, Iowa, to Harry and Beverly (Petersen) Wendt. His upbringing, alongside his six siblings, laid the foundation for a life rich in family bonds and cherished memories. After years attending schools in Arion and Dow City, Tom set off on a new adventure by enlisting in the US Army, a path that shaped his character and dedication. Following his honorable discharge on February 28, 1979, he pursued further education, earning his GED in 1984.

Throughout his life, Tom thrived in nature, often finding solace in fishing trips, that would often go all night, with his brothers, Robert and David. He spent time working with the circus in Florida, where he seized the thrill of adventure. He enjoyed going to the casino and found contentment working in his yard.

Tom shared experiences with family and friends that underscored his genuine spirit and emphasized his role as a supportive brother and devoted friend. He treasured his family and spending time with them. His steadfast commitment to supporting those in need left an indelible mark on all who knew him.

Tom passed away on June 7, 2024, at his home in Arion, Iowa, at the age of 63 years, nine months, and 24 days.

In addition to his parents, he rejoins his brothers: David Allen Wendt and Michael Dean Wendt; sister, Debra Sue Quallen; and sister-in-law, Peggy Sue Wendt. Tom is survived by his brothers: Lee Wendt of Florida, Robert (Debra) Wendt of Charter Oak, and John A. Wendt of Denison; two nieces: Charlene Cooper of Dayton, Ohio and Jessica (James) Briggs of Arcadia; three nephews: Troy Wendt of Florida, Chad Wendt of Anamosa, Nathaniel Wendt of Colorado; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

Tom’s wishes were to be cremated. His family will be holding a Celebration of Life Service at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Logan, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the family.
