Stewart Anthony Haney, affectionately known as Tony, was born on June 6, 1951, in Austin, Minnesota, to Warner and Lois (Bischoff) Haney. He graduated from Austin High School in 1969, marking the beginning of a life defined by service and dedication. Tony enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served on the USS Meyerkord and the USS Cobbler submarine, earning his Silver Dolphins in 1972. After achieving the rank of Engineman Petty Officer 2nd Class, he was honorably discharged on August 29, 1973, and subsequently joined the Minnesota Army National Guard.
Following his military service, Tony held various jobs in Minnesota. In 1976, he married Sandra and the couple moved to Manitoba, Canada. He worked as a cabinetmaker and impressively built his own motorcycle from scratch. He also pursued his education, earning a bachelor’s degree from the University of Manitoba. The couple relocated to Denison, where they welcomed two children, Anthony Lee and Amanda L. Though they later separated, Tony remained a devoted father.
For over 25 years, Tony worked as a counselor at the Denison Job Corps, where he inspired and guided countless young people, leaving a lasting impact on their lives.
Tony loved his life on his acreage near Irwin, where he enjoyed grilling, gardening, and woodworking. He cherished his time riding his motorcycle and found solace in his shop, often watching his favorite show, Walker Texas Ranger. Above all, Tony valued the moments spent with family and friends, creating memories that will be cherished forever.
Tony passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2024, at the Denison Care Center, at the age of 73 years, four months, and 14 days. He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved son, Anthony Lee Haney.
