Valgene Fred Kruse was born July 6, 1941, the son of Fred and Esther Kuhlmann Kruse. He died Wednesday, September 14, 2011, at the Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, Iowa, at the age of seventy.
Valgene was born in Hanover Township, Crawford County, Iowa. He was baptized on August 3, 1941, at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa, and later confirmed there on April 3, 1955. He attended a country school in Hanover Township and graduated from the Denison High School. In 1960, he joined the National Guard and received his basic training in Fort Ord, California. He returned home to help his father on the family farm.
He was united in marriage to Lilith Hansen on April 22, 1962, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lincoln Township, Audubon County. The couple made their home on the family farm south of Charter Oak were they lived for forty-nine years. They were blessed with the birth of one son, Randy.
Valgene loved his family very much and enjoyed working with them on the farm. In his leisure time he enjoyed going to farm sales, especially if there was antique machinery. In his younger years he was active in bowling, hunting, and fishing. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison.
Valgene was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Lilith; his son, Randy Kruse and his wife, Dee; his precious granddaughter, Jodee; three brothers-in-law, Robert and his wife, Ruth; Norman and his wife, Roni; and Robert; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
