VaNetta Anna Spreng was born November 6, 1923, the daughter of William and Alvena Quandt. She died Thursday, March 26, 2015, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, at the age of ninety-one.
VaNetta was born and raised on a farm near Charter Oak, Iowa. She was baptized into Christ on December 2, 1923 and later confirmed on April 1, 1939. She received her education in a rural country school in Paradise Township.
On February 21, 1945, she was united in marriage to Elmer "Swede" Spreng, and their marriage was blessed with the birth of four children. They made their home on a farm near Arion, Iowa where VaNetta was a busy homemaker and devoted farm wife, assisting her husband in anyway that was needed. In addition to helping on the farm, she also worked at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital, at the local creamery and candled eggs. During the harvest season, she would assist the neighbors, and enjoyed making dinners for the farm help.
In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking, baking, crocheting, doing upholstery work, and volunteering at the Temporary Aid Program (TAP). VaNetta had a great love for the outdoors. She enjoyed tending to her garden, taking great pride in her lawn, and loved family bonfires at the farm. VaNetta had a very strong faith and was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and their Ladies Aid. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with and caring for her family.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Swede in 1988; one son, Michael; two granddaughters: EmmyAnn and Julie; one sister, Bernice; one son-in-law, John; one brother-in-law, Ray. Survivors include one daughter; Darlene; two sons: Larry and his wife, Shirley; Richard and his wife, Lucinda; one sister, Delores; ten grandchildren;thirty-five great-grandchildren;fifteen great-great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.
