Velma Annette Meeves was born June 3, 1912 in Sarcoxie, Missouri, the daughter of Henry and Alma Hollrah Huelsman. She passed away at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa on Friday September 19, 2014 at the age of 102.
Velma was baptized on June 16, 1912 and confirmed on April 5, 1925 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Charter Oak, Iowa. Velma was united in marriage to Edward Meeves on March 9, 1930. Their marriage was blessed with the birth of 3 children.
Velma enjoyed quilting and baking; especially cinnamon rolls, cookies, and angel food cakes. She also enjoyed watching As The World Turns, and baseball with her husband Edward. Velma liked socializing with her close friends but was also very content to be at home. She enjoyed gardening and raised African Violets and was a member of the Ladies Aid for over 50 years. She loved family gatherings, especially at Christmas time.
Velma is preceded in death by her husband, Edward in 1993; two grandsons, Bryan Meeves, and Rodney Nemitz; one great-great-grandson, Hawk Condell; one sister, Sadie Kroll and her husband Walter; and one brother, Eugene Huelsman and his wife Irene.
Survivors include: 3 children, Paul Meeves and his wife Betty of Dunlap, Iowa; Jeanette Nemitz and her husband Milfred of Denison, Iowa; Gerald Meeves and his wife Donna of Schleswig, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
