Vera was born September 28, 1927, in White Plains, New York, the daughter of George and Anna Carman. She died Sunday, December 21, 2014, at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, at the age of eighty-seven.
She received her education in New York and on October 13, 1946 she married Arnold Suntken making their home in Denison. Vera worked for many years as a clerk at Ed’s Paint and Floor Covering Store, mixing a lot of paint in her lifetime.
Arnold died February 10, 1993, and in July, the family home was destroyed by a flood. After the flood, she lived in an apartment until 2007. She then moved to an apartment in Ankeny, Iowa to be closer to her children and grandchildren.
Vera was always young at heart. She had a wonderful wit and made those that knew her smile. She was always willing to help. She liked being outside gardening and camping at the lake. She also enjoyed an occasional trip to a casino.
Vera is preceded in death by her parents, George and Anna; her stepfather, Henry; her step-sister, Deloris and her husband Arnold. She is survived by her daughters: Patricia (Michael) ; Carole(Robert); Debra (George); one sister, Betty; one brother-in-law, Gerald (Mary); one sister-in-law, Geraldine; five grandchildren: Christopher, Nathan (Becca); Eric (Andrea); Marc (Kristen) and Dena (Jason);Vera so enjoyed her great-grandchildren:Cody, Shaylynn, Evelyn, Carman, Sophia, Harper and Anneliesa; four step grandchildren and spouses, numerous step-great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends
