Vernon H. Kuehnhold

Vernon Henry Fred Kuehnhold was born June 1, 1926, in Hanover Township, Crawford County, Iowa, the son of Adolph and Ella Kuehnhold. He passed away Friday, March 29, 2019, at his winter home in Mercedes, Texas, at the age of ninety-two.
Vernon was baptized in Christ October 6, 1926, and later confirmed his faith April 5, 1942, at the Friedens Evangelical Church, now known as the United Church of Christ, in Schleswig, Iowa. He received his education in the rural schools near his home.
On June 7, 1948, Vernon was united in marriage to Bonnie Jean Winans and they were blessed with four children, Terry, Gary, Kevin and Kay, who died as an infant. In 2000, Vernon married Donna Mae Durheim Martinson and gained two stepchildren, Brett and Jennifer.
Vernon began his employment career in the garbage service in the early 1950's and bought his father-in-law's junk yard in 1956. In 1960, Vernon and Wayne Steinkuehler started K&S Equipment and in 1964, they became the Case dealer. They ran K&S until December of 1981, when they closed the business due to the farm crisis. In 1982, Vernon went to work for J I Case as a sales representative until he retired in 1995. In his retirement years, he dabbled in used equipment sales and very much enjoyed going to farm auctions and the sale barn on Saturday mornings. He enjoyed traveling and birthday parties were special events that brought him great pleasure.
Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Bonnie; infant daughter, Kay; two sons, Gary (Toad) and Kevin (Bratt); one sister, Betty and her husband, Jerry; three brothers, Melvin and his wife, Mary, Donald and Wayne; and one daughter-in-law, Sherry. Survivors include: his wife, Donna Mae; one son, Terry; stepchildren, Brett and his wife, Lori, and Jennifer and her husband, Brad; twelve grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild, with another expected; two sisters-in-law, Joanne and Gloria; Donna's siblings; nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
