Viola Marie Segebart was born March 3, 1918, the daughter of Wilhelm and Ella (Hesse) Neubauer. She died Saturday, December 26, 2009, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, at the age of ninety-one.
Viola was born in Morgan Township and attended school in Ricketts, Iowa. She worked in homes for people with children. On August 5, 1936, she was united in marriage to George Segebart and the couple made their home around the Schleswig and Deloit area. She kept busy caring for their eight children and helping with the farming. They later owned and operated a business in Deloit. After that Viola went to work as a nurses' aide at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison. Following retirement from Eventide, she went to work for the Senior Center in Denison. The last six years she resided at the Denison Care Center.
She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed visiting and kidding with her friends. Her hobbies included doing needlework, flower gardening, and playing cards, especially Euchre. She also liked watching TV, including Court TV, exciting talk shows, and car racing (NASCAR races).
Viola was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George; two sons, Ervin and Keith; one daughter, Bernice; one brother, Clarence Neubauer; and one sister, Esther McNeely. Survivors include two sons, Glenn Segebart and his wife, Marcella, of Ida Grove, Iowa, and Roger Segebart of Sugar Creek, Missouri; three daughters, Alyce Mae Berndt of Lake View, Iowa, Joyce Wiegel of Denison, Iowa, and Elaine Chervenka and her husband, Larry, of Freedom, Wisconsin; two daughters-in-law, Voncille Segebart of Florida and Angie Segebart of Council Bluffs, Iowa; sixteen grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; other relatives; and friends.
