Virgene L. Fredericks

Virgene Louise Fredericks was born in Denison, Iowa on January 12, 1943, the daughter of Elmer and Lorna Petersen. She died on Tuesday, October 25, 2016, at her home in Schleswig, Iowa, at the age of seventy-three.
Virgene was baptized on February 21, 1943 and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith on March 30, 1958. She was raised on a farm north of Denison and graduated from the Denison High School with the class of 1961. On December 23, 1962, Virgene was united in marriage to Richard Fredericks at Zion Lutheran Church in Dension. Their union was blessed with four children: Valerie, Denise, Colleen, and Doug. Their first home was in Norfolk, Virginia where Dick was stationed in the U.S. Navy. They moved to Schleswig in 1967.
Virgene was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, a charter member of the altar guild and at the time of her death, a member of the Ladies Aid of which she held many offices. She was also a Sunday School and confirmation teacher for over 15 years. Virgene was a charter member in her younger years of the Friendly Fairies 4-H Club and helped start the Schleswig Stars 4-H Club, receiving the Silver Clover award for her work. She served on the county extension council and was also a member of the Schleswig branch of the Crawford County Hospital Auxiliary. Virgene enjoyed playing bridge, embroidering, golfing, and spending the winters in Arizona.
Including her parents Elmer and Lorna Petersen, Virgene was preceded in death by her sister, Donna; granddaughter, Taylor Teut; father-in-law, Raymond Fredericks Sr.; and a special uncle, Louis Petersen. Those remaining to cherish her memories include her husband, Richard of 53 years; three daughters; Valerie and her husband, Craig; Denise and her husband, John; Colleen and her husband, Joe; one son, Doug and his wife Christi; her mother-in-law, Dorothy; eight grandchildren: Dylan, Lacy, Derek, Jacob, Raven, Thad, Megan, and Dalton; one great-grandchild, Lincoln; two brothers, Virtus and his wife, Barb; Dale and his wife, Jackie; brother-in-law, Raymond and his wife,Beverly; many other relatives and friends.
