W. Arthur Gress

William Arthur "Art" Gress was born May 16, 1924, to parents of German ancestry George and Clara Mae Wiley Gress. He went to be with his Lord on Saturday, June 30, 2012, at the Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, Iowa, at the age of 88.
Art was a very successful business man and a great friend to all who knew him. He was owner and operator of Arts Produce in Charter Oak, Iowa, for 44 years. He was a 4-H leader for 20 years and was named "Citizen of the Year" in Charter Oak in 1980. Art enjoyed traveling to many exciting places and watching the crops being planted in the fields with the big machinery brought a big smile to his face.
Art married Leola Skarin of Kiron, Iowa, and they continued to live in Charter Oak. Leola passed away in 1986. On July 28, 2001, Art married Nancy Sulsberger in Sanford, Florida. They worked side by side and continued with his hobby of traveling to many points of interest.
In later years Art became ill but still had that big smile when his friends would come to call. He was truly a gentleman and was so kind to all. During these difficult years he had his cartetakers, Heidi Slechta and Brinda Auen both of Kiron. He cherished them and called them "Arts Girls." He was blessed to have them helping to make him so comfortable and secure until God called him home.
Art was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Leola; three brothers, George, Carol, and Ira; two grandchildren, Chloeand Conlee. He leaves to mourn, his wife, Nancy; two children, Tammyand her husband, Scott; and Jlee and his wife, Candi; ten grandchildren; one sister, Noreen; one brother, Charles and his wife, Harriet; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
