Wayne Herbert McMinemee was born August 6, 1920, the son of William and Freda Mattson McMinemee. He passed away at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, on November 11, 2011, at the age of ninety-one.
Wayne was born on a farm in Paradise Township in Crawford County, Iowa. He was baptized at the First Lutheran Church in Omaha, Nebraska, by Pastor Lawrence Acker on April 10, 1922, and later confirmed at Mt. Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church in Omaha on January 11, 1942, by Pastor Howard Barth. Wayne received his education in rural school and at Denison Community Schools, graduating with the class of 1938. In his early years he farmed and was also employed at Skinners Manufacturing in Omaha. On August 6, 1941, he was united in marriage to Evelyn Ohl and settled on a farm in East Boyer Township. The couple was blessed with the birth of four children: Marilyn, Barbara, Kathleen, and Michael.
Wayne was a hard working man who dedicated his life to his family. He owned a trucking and corn shelling business in his earlier years. He enjoyed working his own land, and the land he rented with his loyal "hired-hand," Hubert Lochmiller, as well as tending to his livestock, along with his son and his family, to whom he passed on his love of farming. He farmed for 65 years until his retirement in 2007. Wayne also enjoyed socializing with friends at cafes and time spent with his loved ones. He loved listening and dancing to music and could be found tapping his feet to the beat, even during his recent hospitalization. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa.
Wayne is preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Barbara DeCosmo; and one son-in-law, Robert Fisher. Survivors left to cherish his memories include his wife, Evelyn; two daughters: Marilyn; and Kathleen and her friend, Bill; one son, Michael and his wife, Jena; one son-in-law, Stan; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law: Maynard and his wife, Adlyn; and Ferris and his wife, Fern; other relatives and friends.
