Wayne was baptized in Christ October 8, 1939, at St. John Lutheran Church, Stockholm Township, Kiron, Iowa, and was confirmed there March 29, 1953. He grew up on the family farm and received his education at the schools near his home and the Kiron High School. Wayne served his country in the military in Korea.
On March 5, 1961, he was united in marriage to Sharon Jenkins at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. The couple was blessed with the birth of one daughter, Lisa. After being a self-employed trucker for Bakerline for a time, he then sold out and drove for Schroeders and for Les Brown. His trucking took him to every state and Canada.
Wayne’s life revolved around farming, trucking, and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He attended numerous Allis-Chalmers tractor shows throughout the United States. Wayne and Sharon loved to travel and took numerous trips to Padre Island, Texas. His favorite television programs were Porter Wagner on Sunday mornings, RFDTV, and Mollie B’s Polka Show. He enjoyed morning coffee at the Quik Mart in Kiron and going to the Bowling Alley in Odebolt in the evenings.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Sharon in 2015; and one sister, Betty Pope. Survivors include: one daughter, Lisa James and her husband, Bob of Kiron, Iowa; eight grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Marge Overhue and her husband, Al of Denison; two sisters-in-law; Rena Skarin and her husband, Carroll of Denison and Diane Jenkins of Ida Grove; other relatives, friends and his Eventide family.
