Wesley Ahrenholtz

Wesley LeRoy Ahrenholtz was born September 10, 1924, the son of Peter and Sallie Jedele Ahrenholtz. He passed away on November 2, 2011, at Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, at the age of eighty-seven.
Wes was born on a farm near Defiance, Iowa. He grew up in the area and received his education in the Defiance schools. He attended high school in Denison, Iowa, graduating with the class of 1942. He served in the Army in World War II from 1944 - 1946, with one year in Germany. He earned the European African Middle Eastern Ribbon Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the Army of Occupation Medal in Germany.
Wes was united in marriage to Virgene Denker on December 14, 1952, and to this union was born two daughters. The couple farmed near Manilla until 1994 when they moved to Denison. He was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church in Defiance. Wes enjoyed teasing everyone and attending the grandchildrens activities. He wanted Blair and Kyle to find a blonde and teased Lea about having a boyfriend. You always knew where he was by his laugh.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Lucille. Wes is survived by his wife, Virgene of Denison; two daughters, Gail and her husband, Tom; and Marj; three grandchildren, Blair, Lea, and Kyle; three brothers: Willis and his wife, Dee; Leonard and his wife, Shirley; and Jim and his wife, Karen; four sisters: Loretta; Ruth and her husband, Gilbert; Martha and her husband Bob; and Marie; other relatives and friends.
