Wilbert C. Groth

Wilbert Christopher Groth was born May 19, 1926, the son of William and Louise Groth. He died Monday, May 27, 2019, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, at the age of ninety-three.
Wilbert was born in Goodrich Township, Crawford County, Iowa. He was baptized at Friedens Evangelical Church in Schleswig, Iowa, on September 12, 1926, by Rev. Mauch and later confirmed there on April 6, 1941, by Rev. A.F. Rinne. He received his elementary education one mile from home in the Goodrich No. 3 School. After completing his education he helped on his parents farm and for various farmers.
On February 19, 1950, Wilbert was united in marriage to Donna Lehmann. The couple made their home on a farm southeast of Schleswig and was blessed with the birth of four children. Wilbert was married to Lorraine Jurgensen on March 24, 1995, at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa, and made their home on the farm.
Wilbert became a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig in 1950, where he served as a voting member, elder and usher. He later transferred his membership to Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. Wilbert and Donna served on the Schleswig Community Board, where they enjoyed dancing. In his leisure time Wilbert enjoyed bowling, playing cards and socializing at Cheetas in Schleswig and would never miss Chicken Tuesday. Everyone enjoyed his sense of humor. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. Farming was his life and enjoyed caring for his yard. On May 21,Wilbert moved into Silveridge and looked forward to returning to the farm.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Donna; two brothers, Milroy and Vertus; two sisters Darlene and her husband, Arlo; Irene and her husband Herman; one brother-in-law, Darlo. Survivors include: his wife, Lorraine; his children: Roger and wife, Terri, and Diane and husband, Marvin; Russ and wife, Brie; and Deb; step-children; Rhonda and husband, Gary, Denise and husband, Bryce, Barry, and Robin and husband, Charles; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; eleven step-grandchildren; seventeen step great-grandchildren; three sisters: Marilyn, Betty and husband, Paul, and Margaret and husband, Ervin; two sisters-in-law, Marlene and husband, Gene, and Marlys; other relatives and friends.
