Willis Edward Ahrenholtz was born on May 25, 1929 to Peter and Sallie (Jedele) Ahrenholtz in Washington Township, Crawford County, Iowa. He was baptized on August 4, 1929 and later confirmed his faith on April 18, 1943 at the EUB Church in Defiance. He attended country school and graduated from Denison High School with the class of 1948. Willis served in the United States Air Force from 1950 to 1952. Rev. C.W. Schmidt united Willis and Delores Cecelia Clausen into marriage on May 3, 1953 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. Shortly after marriage, the couple moved to the farm where they lived their entire life.
Willis was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Denison. He had a strong commitment to his family and faith in God. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, laughter and his simple everyday life. He enjoyed people; his family, his friends, his neighbors. Above all he treasured his grandchildren. He made daily trips to town for coffee. There was never a snowstorm bad enough to keep him home.
