Gary John Teut, the son of Herbert and Arlene Teut, was born April 14, 1946, at Ute, Iowa. He passed away Saturday, April 7, 2018, at Hospice of the Valley in Glendale, Arizona, at the age of seventy-one.
Gary was baptized in Christ May 12, 1946, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Soldier Township, and later confirmed his faith March 26, 1961, at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Ricketts, Iowa. He received his education in the Schleswig schools and graduated from Schleswig High School with the class of 1964. He then continued his education at the University of South Dakota graduating in 1968 and subsequently received his master’s degree. While in college, Gary was a member of the ROTC and then served his country in the United States Army until July of 1970 when he received his honorable discharge as a 1st Lt. Gary was united in marriage to Kandi Friesz April 6, 1974, and this union was blessed with four children.
After returning from the service, he audited J.C. Penney stores and then was an assistant accountant at the University of Nebraska. Gary then returned to rural Iowa and farmed. At that same time, he also became the Chief Financial Officer at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove and after fifteen years became the Assistant Administrator of the hospital and continued in that capacity until his retirement in 1998.
Gary was an EMT in Ida Grove for twenty-five years and also served as a first responder on the Ricketts Fire Department. Golfing with the Soldier Township boys and camping in the motor home in Iowa, Minnesota, Arizona and Wisconsin were his favorite leisure-time activities until selling their motor home when they purchased a home in Arizona. Gary also enjoyed playing cards, socializing, watching wrestling on television and westerns, especially John Wayne and James Arness as Matt Dillon on Gunsmoke. Fishing, a little hunting and trail riding with the kids were also pleasurable activities.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Jason; one sister, Judith and her husband, Fred. Survivors include: his wife, Kandi; one daughter, Cori and her husband, Jeff; two sons, Josh, and Nathan and his wife, Nicole; five grandchildren, Jamie Jo, Wyatt, Colton, Owen and Prudence; one brother, David; and one sister, Nancy; other relatives and friends.
